Random Thoughts II August 22, 2005

I’m actually planning on making a real post today. Later. (I’m a master of procrastination.) Until then, here are more random thoughts:

Ditching the white Apple earbuds that came with my iPod and replacing them with a $16 pair of Sony’s from Best buy was the best thing I ever did to improve my music experience. Now my ears don’t hurt after hours of music goodness (not because the music was too loud, no, because the earbuds actually HURT my ears after a while.)

Ok, so my iPod’s battery won’t actually last for hours. But my Shuffle’s will!

Sorry Gwen, you’re a cutie, but if I hear “Hollaback Girl” one more time I’m gonna lose it. I suppose it’s what I get for actually thinking it was a good song when it first came out.

I know it’s been said before, and I know I’ve said it before, but here it is again: MTV needs to, oh I dunno, actually play music videos ALL the time. Not just in the morning when I’m too tired to care.

I love how people turn out to be closet Britney fans unexpectedly. I swear, every time someone asks me if that’s Britney I’m listening to I expect to be ridiculed, but more often than not they actually admit to like some of her stuff too. I’ll admit it: I like some of Britney’s music. (However, covering “Satisfaction”?! WHAT were you thinking? You’re not Mick Jagger… get over it.)

Speaking of bad covers: Jessica Simpson’s cover of “These Boots are Made for Walkin’” is terrible. At least, that’s what I thought until I saw the music video. It’s still bad, but… well, I kinda like it now. (I’m pathetic, I know.)

It occurs to me that I must be VERY careful not to leave my desk while I’m logged into my Blogger account. It’s not that I don’t trust my co-workers, it’s just… ok, I don’t trust them. Especially given the history of Ben and Kyle hacking each other’s blogs and making posts.

I’ll admit, every time I go to slashdot’s current poll, I vote again. (Current poll: Favorite Wind Instrument? My vote: Saxamaphone!)

Few things bug me more than people that can’t use proper punctuation and capitalization in blog / forum posts. It’s one thing to ignore the rules of proper grammar in instant messages or on an MMORPG. When you’re writing long passages with thoughts that amount to more than “how was your day?,” punctuation and grammar are a must. Otherwise, It’s just too much work for me to read.

After spending some time I reading the WoW forums, I remembered why I never read the EQ forums.

On a side note: 13 year olds and adults that act like 13 year olds should not be allowed in chat rooms, on IRC, or on MMORPGs. I’m there to have fun, not to deal with drama or babysit.

Random Thoughts I August 22, 2005

Some random thoughts this morning…

I have never cut myself so many times shaving. I guess that’s what I get for not taking my time.

Getting up early to make breakfast was so no worth it. Maybe because I managed to over-cook the sausage and the eggs (the yolks my sunny-side up eggs were solid… never a good thing.)

I wish there were a good way to blog while I’m driving. I’m having a hard time remembering all the random thoughts for the morning.

I wish someone would invent a good way to blog anywhere. Or maybe I shouldn’t be so cheap, and buy a Blackberry / Treo / a more functional cell phone. Of course, then there are the added data service costs…

I hate my iPod. When it says the battery is half full, it dies. When it says the battery is empty, it plays just fine. And when I really want to listen to music, it dies after the 2nd CD.

Speaking of music, the Detroit area is seriously lacking in good radio stations. In fact, that’s the best argument I’ve heard in favor of getting XM or Sirius satellite radio. Who would have thought that Lansing would have a better selection of radio stations than Detroit? Not I, but I find myself longing for 101.7, 102.5, 105.5, and 106.1. The high point of the radio stations around here is 88.9, which is a new rock / alternative station in the same vein as the (old) 92.1 in Lansing… may it rest in peace.

Does anyone else remember when Britney was actually hot?

Same question for Christina.

Is it just me, or was Hillary Duff cuter before her recent weight loss? Her face just seems… too skinny or something. I’m not exactly sure what it is.

Dukes of Hazzard = One of the funniest movies ever. And Jessica is looking fiiiiiiiine.

Another Monday at work. I’m tired and bored. And late as usual.

It’s sad the level of contempt I have for some of our customers around here. Not usually for their frequent ignorance (that can be easily forgiven, not everyone is a computer expert,) but often for their arrogance or lack of consideration for others. I was going to detail something that happened this morning, but I’d like to keep my job.

I need more caffeine to deal with all the crap around here this morning. Monday’s aren’t supposed to be this bad.

I’m up to a page for this post in MS Word, so I suppose I should stop rambling. Stupid people that don’t want to actually, you know, READ!

The End of My Last Carefree Summer (I Hope) August 11, 2005

Hmm. August already. I guess I should have seen it coming, this summer just flew by. I really meant to make a July post, just for everyone that gives me a hard time about never posting. … I guess there’s more truth to that than I’d like to admit. LOL when I got on Ben’s case for never updating his blog, he just laughed and made some comment about my blog and all 7 posts I’ve ever made. Yep, it’s true.

Anyway…

So it’s August. Let’s see, I passed my math class (probability) that I was (re)taking (stupid C- rule) with an A. To put it simply, that made me VERY happy. One less thing to worry about at least.

Work is continuing in much the same fashion as before. We have some busy days, but mostly I sit at my desk and tinker with my computer, surfing the web, and read up on the efforts of people to get Mac OS Tiger for x86 running on standard PCs. Kyle, Brandon and I have been going out for lunch basically everyday. While expensive, it’s nice to get away from the office and socialize some (of course, we socialize at work too… /shrug).

Speaking of socializing, I’ve started hanging out with Ben, Brandon, Kyle, and some other friends of theirs. Poker every couple weeks has been a blast, although what Kyle said on his blog is true, we all usually get very bored of the actual poker very quickly. Last time it was at Brandon’s house, and he has a pool, and no air conditioning. Needless to say, getting in the pool was the first thing on our minds, and playing poker wasn’t. Ben won again (grrrr…). The only problem was that there weren’t any girls there. At all. Nothing like a bunch of guys hanging out in a pool after dark. (A very nice pool, with a beautiful patio and gazebo.) Ahh well, it was still fun.

Which may (or may not) beg another question… Why does Mike care if there are girls there or not? Well my friend, that one is pretty easy to answer. Mike is single again. Let me tell you, it sure is different. Maybe a little weird, but mostly just different. (So if you ever wanted to ask me out but didn’t because I had a girlfriend, now’s your chance! [OK, I’m probably being optimistic here…] LOL)

So it’s August, and most of my summer is gone. I’ve spent far too much time this summer camped out on the couch, watching TV and playing video games, and I’m really starting to recognize it. It’s my last semi-carefree summer, a fact that I’m increasingly aware of. I think back, what did I want to do this summer? Fix my Mom’s old motorcycle, get my motorcycle endorsement for my driver’s license, do some programming, learn to play guitar, the list goes on. What have I accomplished? Nada.

Wow that’s depressing.
