Better late than never… October 20, 2005

Ok. The good news is, it’s been less than a month since my last post. The bad news is, every 3 weeks is still not exactly what I was planning on. Between laziness and business I just haven’t gotten to it…

(The sad truth is I had to force myself to post tonight. I really, really wanted to work on the design and code tonight. Thoughts dance in my head of moving from Blogger to a localized system like Movable Type, with a mySQL backend, wiki posts, and a new design based on good html, php, and CSS code. [Don't worry if you don't understand any of that. Really.] I guess there’s a reason I’m studying engineering instead of a major consisting mainly of reading and writing papers.)

So, what have I been up to… Here are the events of the last 3 weeks, as best as I can remember them:

-Hawk Nelson and Thousand Foot Krutch concert in Toledo. AWESOME. Loud music, sweet friends, good bands, and yummy Slushies on the way home. It’s too bad that the lead singer of TFK lost his voice earlier in the week, but it was still sweet. Nothing like standing and jumping around for a few hours after eating too much Olive Garden. Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time. My legs and neck were sore for several days after this one. Too much jumping and headbanging. Oh, and wearing my Adidas sandals (soccer slides) was a bad idea.

-Career Fair and the official beginning of resume submission / campus interviews. Always fun, always exciting. So yeah, the job search is progressing. I’ve had a couple interviews, have one next week, and hopefully will have more after that. I’d say more, but I don’t want to bore you, and other people have told me they were warned not to put anything in their weblogs that they wouldn’t want prospective companies to read (I guess hiring managers can use Google too).

-General slacking, with just enough work done to stay caught up. 373 DOES require a lot of lab time (there’s no way you can get the labs done in your scheduled lab session), so I’ve been doing the open lab, try to find a time that works for you and your partner, funness. We really started pushing on our 482 (operating systems) project (thread library). As we would find out later, we didn’t start really pushing on it early enough.

-Fall Break, and the Big Ticket Festival in Gaylord. Short version: Worked on our 482 project until 1am on Friday. Woke up, drove to Mt. Pleasant Saturday morning. Chilled for an hour or so, loaded 5 of us (Me, Kelsey, Kelsey’s brother Josh, Lance (friend of Kelsey’s and Josh’s from back home), and Jana (friend of Josh’s from CMU)) into the car and drove to Gaylord. Went to a sweet concert with 10 bands, 5 of which are big names in Christian rock: Pillar, Sanctus Real, Superchick, Kids in the Way, and Audio Adrenaline. It was awesome. Nothing like 6 hours of (mostly) sweet music. We even got to meet most of the bands and get autographs and pictures. Sadly, we didn’t get to meet Audio A or Superchick. Other than that everything was great. Drove back to Mt. Pleasant and crashed in the living room of Josh’s suite. Sunday, woke up, went to church, got dropped off in da’Burg by Kelsey on her way back to A2. Spent Sunday with the ‘fam, woke up early on Monday and drove back to A2 with Dad. Spent all of Monday and Tuesday in the library working on the (dreaded) 482 project.

On Tuesday night, we submitted our 482 project to the Autograder after making a few minor changes that we didn’t think would improve our grade much (we had about a 65% at this point.) 30 minutes later the Autograder finally sent us our feedback… 100%!!! We basically ran out of the library (after Josh and Eric finished their victory lap around the computers…)

Ok, I’ve gone way late here, and I’m tired. Oh, and the laundry I was waiting on is done now. Morning comes too early.
